Prayer for protection

A prayer based on the images of Psalm 91 and Psalm 121, asking for God's keeping over you and yours.

Lord, you are my refuge and my fortress. I place myself under your shadow today and I place with me the people I love.

Keep me from the trap I do not see and the danger I do not expect. Keep my body on the streets, on the road, at work. Keep my mind from the lies that frighten and the fear that paralyzes. Keep my heart from the evil that comes in disguised as something good.

Keep my home. May no violence, no theft, no accident come through this door. Keep my children where I cannot be. Keep those who travel, those who work at night, those who are far away.

Send your angels to guard us in all our ways. Be our strong tower, where we run and are safe.

I know you do not promise that nothing bad will happen; you promise we will not be alone when it does. That is enough for me. The Lord will keep my going out and my coming in, from this time forward and forevermore. Amen.
