Prayer for a sick person
To pray for someone who is ill — at home, in the hospital or far away — asking for relief, patience and company.
Lord, I pray for (name), who is ill. You know what they are feeling right now — the pain, the exhaustion, the fear of what comes next, the wish for it all to be over soon.
Sustain them on their bed. Ease the pain tonight. Give them rest when the body will not let them sleep and appetite when food will not go down. May they feel your presence in a concrete way: in a visit, in a message, in a good silence.
Give them patience for the length of the treatment, which is usually longer than we want. Deliver them from discouragement and guilt. May they not feel like a burden to anyone.
Bless those who care for them: the family, the nurses, the doctors. Give them strength, gentleness and wisdom. Keep them from the tiredness that hardens.
I ask for the full restoration of their health, in your time. And while it does not come, I ask that they not be alone — not with the pain, not with the fear.
The Lord is near to those who have a broken heart. Be near to (name) today. Amen.
