Prayer before surgery

For the eve or the morning of surgery: handing over the fear, praying for the team's hands and for a good recovery.

Lord, tomorrow (or today) is the day of the surgery. I will not pretend I am not afraid. I am. And that is exactly why I come to you.

I hand my body over to you. You formed it; you know what needs to be repaired. Guide the surgeon's hands and the whole team. Give them attention, calm and precision. May nothing be overlooked and may every decision be the right one.

Keep me during the anesthesia, when I will be in control of nothing. May my heart beat steadily and my breathing be calm. May I wake up in peace.

Look after my family in the waiting room. You know how long the waiting is. Give them a kind word, some company, news that brings calm.

Bless the recovery: may the pain be bearable, the healing clean and the body respond well. Give me patience on the days I want to do more than I can.

I trust you. Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow, you are with me. Amen.
