Bible verses for travel
The Bible is a book of people on the move: Abraham leaving Ur, the people in the wilderness, Ruth changing countries, Paul on roads and in shipwrecks. That is why it has so many promises for the road. Psalm 121 — a song of pilgrimage — guarantees that the Lord guards your going out and your coming in; Jacob, fleeing home, hears that God will be with him wherever he goes and will bring him back; Isaiah promises company when passing through the waters. The verses on this page are for prayer before hitting the road, for the card of someone moving abroad, for the exchange student's suitcase and for the business trip that weighs heavy. Read one at the airport or the gas station and hand over the journey — and whatever is waiting at the arrival.
Yahweh will keep your going out and your coming in, from this time forward, and forever more.
In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.
Haven’t I commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Don’t be afraid. Don’t be dismayed, for Yahweh your God is with you wherever you go.”
For he will put his angels in charge of you, to guard you in all your ways.
When you pass through the waters, I will be with you, and through the rivers, they will not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned, and flame will not scorch you.
Behold, I am with you, and will keep you, wherever you go, and will bring you again into this land. For I will not leave you until I have done that which I have spoken of to you.”
Yahweh himself is who goes before you. He will be with you. He will not fail you nor forsake you. Don’t be afraid. Don’t be discouraged.”
If I take the wings of the dawn, and settle in the uttermost parts of the sea, even there your hand will lead me, and your right hand will hold me.
