Bible verses for studying and exams

The Bible values study without turning it into an idol. Proverbs says the heart of the discerning seeks knowledge and the wise listen and add to their learning; Daniel and his friends, foreign students in a hostile court, receive knowledge and understanding from God; Paul asks Timothy to present himself approved, handling the Word well. The verses on this page are for the night before the exam, for the entrance test that has dragged on for years, for the thesis and for the tired student. They do not replace studying — Proverbs is the first to say laziness has consequences — but they place the effort inside something bigger: doing it heartily, as for the Lord, and asking for wisdom from the One who gives it without reproach.

  1. For Yahweh gives wisdom. Out of his mouth comes knowledge and understanding.

  2. But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.

  3. The heart of the discerning gets knowledge. The ear of the wise seeks knowledge.

  4. that the wise man may hear, and increase in learning; that the man of understanding may attain to sound counsel;

  5. And whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men,

  6. Give diligence to present yourself approved by God, a workman who doesn’t need to be ashamed, properly handling the Word of Truth.

  7. Take firm hold of instruction. Don’t let her go. Keep her, for she is your life.

  8. Now as for these four youths, God gave them knowledge and skill in all learning and wisdom; and Daniel had understanding in all visions and dreams.
