Bible verses for Christmas
Christmas in the Bible fits in a few chapters and many layers. Luke tells the birth from the point of view of Mary and the shepherds; Matthew, from that of Joseph and the wise men; John does not describe the manger but sums it all up in one line: "the Word became flesh and lived among us". Centuries earlier, Isaiah already spoke of a child who would be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Prince of Peace. The verses on this page are for the reading at dinner, the Christmas card, the church message, the caption on the family photo and the prayer of those spending the date missing someone. Read all of Luke 2:1-20 on Christmas Eve: it is the most traditional reading and still the most beautiful.
