Matthew 6:33
But seek first God’s Kingdom and his righteousness; and all these things will be given to you as well.
Context and meaning
The line comes at the end of a passage about material anxiety. Jesus has just spoken of birds that do not sow and lilies that do not spin — not to praise inertia, but to say that worry adds nothing to anyone's stature.
The key word is first. Not "only", not "instead of". Food and clothing are not despised in the text; they are reordered. The problem is not having needs, it is letting them govern your life.
"God's Kingdom and his righteousness" defines the alternative: living under God's rule and in the right way before him. It is a statement of priority, not a prosperity technique.
The promise — "all these things will be given to you as well" — was said to poor people, not to investors. It matches the Lord's Prayer request for daily bread: enough for today. And the next verse closes the argument: each day has enough trouble of its own.
