Prayer of thanksgiving

Lord, today I do not come to ask. I come to give thanks.

Thank you for life — for this body that works more than it fails, for this mind that thinks, for this heart that feels. Thank you for every morning I woke up, including the ones I treated as an obligation.

Thank you for people. For those who raised me, those who taught me, those who forgave me, those who stayed. Thank you even for those who passed through and left me something good.

Thank you for what went well: the work, the home, the table, the health I have, the plans that came true. And thank you for what did not go well and, looking back, protected me from something worse.

Thank you for what you did without my seeing: the doors you closed, the dangers you turned aside, the times you carried me without my noticing.

Thank you, above all, for you. For not leaving me, for hearing me, for being good when I am not. May my whole life be an answer to this gratitude. Amen.
