Bible verses about baptism

Baptism appears at the beginning of Jesus' ministry — when he himself goes down into the Jordan and hears "this is my beloved Son" — and at the end, in the command to go, make disciples and baptize. The letters explain what the water means: burial and resurrection with Christ, a new life, being clothed with Christ. Each Christian tradition celebrates baptism in its own way, and this page does not enter that discussion; it gathers the texts that all of them read.
