Evening prayer of thanks

A review of the day in the form of thanks: going back over the hours looking for the good received, before turning off the light.

Lord, before I turn off the light, I want to go back over this day with you — not looking for what was missing, but for what you gave.

Thank you for the morning: for waking up, for having something to eat, for having somewhere to go. Thank you for the afternoon: for the work that filled my hands, for the people who crossed my path, for the conversation that did me good. Thank you for the evening: for this home, for this quiet, for this moment with you.

Thank you for the things that went right and that I treated as normal. Thank you for what went wrong and still did not knock me down. Thank you for what you prevented without my knowing.

I think now of three good things from this day: (say three things). For each of them, thank you.

Tomorrow I will forget most of this; that is why I give thanks today, while I remember. Keep my gratitude and let me wake up with it. Amen.
