Luke

Luke opens by explaining his method: he investigated everything carefully in order to write an orderly account. It is the longest and most literary Gospel, with special attention to those on the margins — shepherds as the first to hear of the birth, women named among Jesus' followers, Samaritans, tax collectors and the poor. Only here do parables like the good Samaritan and the prodigal son appear, along with the songs of Mary, Zechariah and Simeon. Luke also gives great space to Jesus' prayer life and to the Holy Spirit. The book has a sequel by the same author: the Acts of the Apostles. It is the recommended read for anyone wanting the full story, from the announcement to Mary to the ascension.
