Jeremiah

Jeremiah was called while still young and tried to refuse by saying "I am a child". He prophesied for four decades, living through Judah's final collapse, and spent much of his life ignored, imprisoned and threatened for saying what nobody wanted to hear: that the city would fall. He is the most personal of the prophets — the book records his complaints, doubts and crises with God, which earned him the nickname "the weeping prophet". In the middle of the disaster, though, stand some of Scripture's most beautiful promises: the plans of peace in chapter 29, the new covenant written on the heart in chapter 31 and the purchase of a field as a gesture of hope.
