2 Peter

2 Peter is a letter of warning. The author knows his end is near and writes to leave the essentials on record. Chapter 1 speaks of growth in character and the reliability of apostolic testimony — he claims to have been on the mount of transfiguration. Chapter 2 is a harsh denunciation of false teachers driven by greed. And chapter 3 answers a skeptical argument: it has been a long time and nothing has happened. The answer is one of the most quoted lines about divine patience: "one day is with the Lord as a thousand years... the Lord is not slow concerning his promise", and the delay is read as an opportunity for repentance.
