About the book of 2 John
2 John has thirteen verses and would fit on a postcard. It is addressed "to the chosen lady and her children" — probably a local church described figuratively. The author rejoices at finding some of the "children" walking in truth and repeats the old commandment: love one another. The second half carries a practical warning: at that time itinerant teachers were hosted in homes, and welcoming someone endorsed their message. Hence the caution about those who denied Jesus' coming in the flesh. The note ends in a very human way: I would rather not write more, I hope to come to you and speak face to face.
