Jude

Jude has a single chapter and a declared urgency: the author says he intended to write about our common salvation but had to change subject to urge readers to "contend for the faith". The target is people turning grace into license for anything. He draws on a series of historical examples and strong images — waterless clouds, fruitless trees, wandering stars — and cites Jewish traditions known at the time. Despite the harsh tone, the closing is one of the most beautiful blessings in the New Testament: "to him who is able to keep you from stumbling, and to present you faultless... with exceeding joy".
